UAE gamers will soon notice a significant change when they open the PlayStation Store: prices will no longer be displayed in US dollars.

PlayStation is preparing to introduce the UAE dirham as the store currency for customers in the Emirates, bringing digital purchases in line with the currency they use every day.

The change is scheduled to take place during maintenance from October 5 to October 8, 2026. Once completed, prices, payments and receipts on the PlayStation Store are expected to appear in dirhams rather than dollars.

For users, the transition should be largely automatic. According to the customer notice, there is no need to change account settings or take any other action before the update.

PlayStation Store Prices Are Changing in the UAE

Until now, UAE PlayStation users have been accustomed to seeing many digital prices listed in US dollars.

That can mean mentally converting a game’s price into dirhams before deciding whether to buy it. The upcoming change removes that extra step by showing the cost directly in the local currency.

For example, a game displayed at $79.99 currently requires UAE customers to work out its approximate dirham value. Once the transition takes place, the store itself will show local-currency pricing.

That does not necessarily mean games will become cheaper or more expensive. The main confirmed change is the currency in which prices and charges are displayed.

It should, however, make costs easier to read at a glance and help customers understand exactly what they are being charged.

Payments Will Pause During Maintenance

Gamers planning to make purchases in early October should pay attention to the maintenance window.

Payments and PlayStation wallet top-ups are expected to be temporarily unavailable while the currency update is carried out.

The interruption will affect credit and debit cards as well as other supported payment options.

For anyone planning to buy a new game, downloadable content or add money to their wallet during those dates, completing the transaction before maintenance begins could avoid inconvenience.

Normal payment services are expected to resume once the work has been completed and the updated currency system is in place.

Saudi PlayStation Users Will See a Similar Change

The UAE is not the only Gulf market receiving a currency update.

PlayStation customers in Saudi Arabia are also expected to move to local-currency pricing, with payments and charges displayed in Saudi riyals following the maintenance period.

Introducing the dirham in the UAE and the riyal in Saudi Arabia gives PlayStation’s digital storefront a more local feel in two major Gulf gaming markets.

For customers, the benefit is straightforward. A price shown on screen will be expressed in a familiar currency rather than requiring a conversion from US dollars.

It could also make it easier for households to monitor gaming spending, particularly for people who regularly purchase digital games, add-ons or other content.

PS3 Store Payments Will Also Be Affected

The maintenance will not be limited to newer PlayStation consoles.

Payments through the PlayStation 3 Store are also expected to become unavailable from October 5 as the changes are implemented.

That makes the announcement relevant to users who still access older PlayStation digital services, even though most current purchases are made through newer consoles and PlayStation platforms.

The notice focuses on payment availability during the maintenance period, so users should avoid assuming that previously purchased PS3 content is affected unless PlayStation provides further information.

What Changes for UAE Gamers?

For most users, very little needs to be done.

There is no account migration to complete and no setting that needs to be manually switched. The main difference should simply appear when customers browse the store after maintenance.

Instead of seeing a title listed in dollars and calculating its approximate value, they will see its price in UAE dirhams.

The same local currency will also be reflected when making payments and viewing receipts.

That may sound like a relatively small interface change, but digital storefront pricing is something gamers encounter every time they consider a purchase. Displaying prices in the currency customers actually use can make the experience noticeably clearer.

A More Local PlayStation Store for the UAE

The timing is particularly relevant as the UAE gaming market continues to attract major releases and an active console audience.

PlayStation customers regularly use the digital store for full games, downloadable content and other purchases, making clear local pricing an important part of the experience.

The October update should remove one of the small inconveniences UAE gamers have dealt with when shopping digitally: converting dollar prices into dirhams.

There will be a short disruption while the transition takes place, with payments and wallet top-ups temporarily unavailable between October 5 and October 8.

After that, UAE PlayStation users should see something much more familiar when they browse the store prices presented directly in dirhams.
