Dubai, Sept 13, 2025 – As anticipation builds ahead of the blockbuster India vs Pakistan Asia Cup clash in Dubai while the tickets are still selling super fast amid the hype and excitement, the Indian cricket team has emphasised its awareness of the strong public emotions surrounding the match.
Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate addressed the media at the Dubai International Stadium on Saturday, highlighting that while players share the compassion of the Indian public, their focus remains firmly on cricket.
“It’s a very sensitive issue. The players are professionals and aware of the people’s sentiments, but their job is to represent India on the field,” Ten Doeschate said.
Sensitive backdrop to high-voltage clash
The fixture comes months after the April 22 terror attack in Kashmir, which escalated tensions between India and Pakistan. Following a four-day conflict, doubts loomed over whether the Asia Cup would proceed. The Asian Cricket Council eventually shifted the tournament to the UAE, clearing the way for the arch-rivals’ encounter.
While Indian television channels have called for a boycott, Ten Doeschate insisted that the team is following the guidance of the BCCI and the Government of India. “The players won’t make political statements. Their cricket will reflect their pride in representing the country,” he added.
Preparations unchanged despite hype
India, led by captain Suryakumar Yadav, are favourites after lifting both the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy. With Jasprit Bumrah spearheading the attack and Kuldeep Yadav anchoring the spin department, the squad enters Sunday’s clash with confidence.
Pakistan, however, field a new-look side after controversially dropping senior stars Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. Despite their inexperience, Ten Doeschate cautioned against underestimating the opposition. “They may be inexperienced, but they bring unpredictability, which can be dangerous,” he said.
Both teams registered opening wins – India over the UAE and Pakistan against Oman – setting the stage for one of cricket’s most intense rivalries.
