The United Arab Emirates has launched a nationwide campaign warning young people about the serious dangers of synthetic drugs, stressing that even a single use can lead to severe health consequences or, in some cases, prove fatal.

The initiative, launched by the National Drug Enforcement Authority in cooperation with the UAE Government Media Office, is part of the National Campaign for Drug Enforcement under the theme “United as One to Eradicate the Threat.” The campaign aims to raise awareness among young people and challenge the common misconception that trying drugs just once is harmless.

Campaign Focuses on Preventing First Time Drug Use

Authorities said one of the campaign’s key messages is that there is no safe “first try” when it comes to synthetic drugs. Officials warned that many young people believe experimenting with drugs only once carries little risk, but that assumption can have life-changing consequences.

The awareness drive encourages families, schools and communities to work together in protecting young people by promoting open communication and educating them about the risks associated with drug use.

Synthetic Drugs Pose Serious Health Risks

According to officials, synthetic drugs can have dangerous effects on both physical and mental health. These substances are often manufactured using artificial chemicals, making their composition unpredictable and, in many cases, more dangerous than traditional narcotics.

Authorities warned that some synthetic substances can cause severe reactions from the very first use, increasing the risk of addiction and other serious health complications.

The campaign highlights the importance of avoiding experimentation altogether, as users may not know exactly what substances they are consuming or how their bodies will react.

Young People Remain Among the Most Vulnerable

The campaign identifies teenagers and young adults as one of the groups most at risk of falling victim to drug abuse. Officials pointed to peer pressure as one of the leading reasons why young people may be encouraged to experiment with drugs.

They also noted that family challenges, emotional neglect and unhealthy social environments can increase the likelihood of substance abuse, making early awareness and guidance essential.

Authorities urged parents to maintain regular conversations with their children, recognise early warning signs and create supportive environments where young people feel comfortable discussing concerns.

UAE Strengthens Prevention and Rehabilitation Efforts

Alongside awareness initiatives, the UAE continues to strengthen its efforts through cooperation between law enforcement, healthcare and educational institutions. Officials said the country’s approach focuses not only on preventing drug use but also on supporting those who need treatment and rehabilitation through appropriate services.

The campaign reflects the UAE’s broader commitment to protecting communities from the dangers of narcotics while encouraging collective responsibility in preventing drug abuse.

Authorities reiterated that when it comes to synthetic drugs, even a single experiment can carry devastating consequences, making awareness and prevention the strongest line of defence.
