The Ministry of Health and Prevention said the monkeypox was detected in a 29-year-old tourist from West Africa who is currently receiving the required medical care in the country.
The virus spreads from one person to another by close contact with lesions, body fluids, respiratory droplets and contaminated materials such as bedding.
Moreover, the ministry has reassured all residents that they will follow all due safety measures, including investigation, contact tracing and follow-up.
Monkeypox was detected as part of the ministry’s initial monitoring system which was configured when monkeypox cases were being reported in multiple countries around the world.
However, the Ministry of Health and Prevention has been “closely monitoring” the increase in cases of monkeypox worldwide and said it had “intensified the local epidemiological surveillance”. All of the medical facilities in United Arab Emirates were told to report any suspected cases to prevent the local spread of the virus.
We have put in place precise precautions for diagnosing suspected patients. The technical advisory team for pandemic control has also managed to prepare a comprehensive guide for surveillance, detection of the disease, management of clinically infected patients and precautionary measures to be taken.MoHaP
