Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) is heading into one of its busiest periods of the year, with more than 100 exhibitions, conferences and business events lined up through the end of 2026.
The packed calendar comes as work continues on the Dh10 billion expansion of Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC) at Expo City Dubai, a project designed to give the city significantly more space for major international events.
From technology and tourism to energy, construction, property and sustainability, the coming months will bring together businesses and industry leaders from around the world.
Events will be spread across DWTC’s two main venues Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre in central Dubai and DEC at Expo City as the organisation prepares for a larger events calendar in the years ahead.
Major Events Fill the Calendar
The busy season begins in September with events including DUPHAT, Middle East Energy and Arabian Travel Market.
October will bring another round of major gatherings, including Beautyworld Dubai, WETEX and the World Green Economy Summit, followed by Gulfood Manufacturing and The Big 5 Global in November.
Technology will take centre stage in December when GITEX Global moves to Dubai Exhibition Centre at Expo City.
The event is expected to draw more than 200,000 technology executives, around 6,800 exhibitors and participants, and visitors from more than 180 countries.
It also allows organisers to choose facilities that better suit the size and requirements of individual events.
DEC Expansion Brings More Space
While the events calendar moves ahead, construction is continuing at Dubai Exhibition Centre.
The expansion is being delivered in three phases, with the first stage completed earlier in 2026.
That work increased DEC’s purpose-built indoor event space to 140,000 square metres and raised its daily visitor capacity to 50,000.
The expanded venue has already hosted major international events including Gulfood and World Health Expo.
Work is now progressing on Phase 2, which will take indoor event space to 160,000 square metres and increase daily capacity to around 60,000 visitors.
The project also includes an extended concourse linking the first two phases, a new Eastern Access Road and multi-storey parking facilities with an initial capacity of around 7,000 vehicles.
These additions are intended to make it easier for the venue to handle bigger crowds and several exhibitions at the same time.
Bigger Plans for 2031
DEC will grow further when the final stage of the expansion is completed.
By 2031, the venue is expected to offer 180,000 square metres of indoor exhibition space and stretch for approximately 1.2 kilometres.
It will be able to receive around 65,000 visitors a day and accommodate more than 20 events simultaneously.
The larger footprint will give organisers more options when planning major international exhibitions, while leaving room for smaller and more specialised industry events to run alongside them.
As more international shows make use of Expo City, DEC is expected to take on a larger role in Dubai’s events calendar.
Two Venues Support Dubai’s Events Calendar
The expansion of DEC does not mean DWTC’s central Dubai venue is being replaced. Instead, the two locations are expected to serve different needs.
Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre remains well placed for conferences, meetings and exhibitions that benefit from a central location, while DEC provides the larger footprint required for major international shows.
Expo City’s transport connections also support that role, with access to the Dubai Metro and major roads, alongside additional parking being developed as part of the expansion.
Together, the two venues give Dubai greater flexibility as its events calendar grows.
DWTC Targets Dh54 Billion Contribution
The DEC project forms part of DWTC’s longer-term growth plans and supports the wider goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.
By 2033, DWTC is targeting an annual economic contribution of Dh54 billion.
The organisation says it has hosted nearly 6,800 events since opening, generating an estimated Dh295 billion in economic output and bringing more than 43 million business visitors to Dubai.
International visitors spend across hotels, restaurants, transport, retail and other services, while participating companies use events to meet potential clients, develop partnerships and explore new markets.
More Than 100 Events Ahead
For DWTC, the immediate test will come over the final months of 2026, with more than 100 exhibitions, conferences and business events scheduled across its two venues.
The calendar will bring some of Dubai’s largest industry gatherings to the city while construction continues at DEC, where the next phase will increase indoor event space to 160,000 square metres.
That combination of a packed events schedule and ongoing construction puts DWTC’s expansion plans into practice well before the full project is completed in 2031.
With Dh10 billion being invested in DEC and DWTC targeting an annual economic contribution of Dh54 billion by 2033, the closing months of 2026 will provide an early indication of how Dubai plans to handle a larger and increasingly international events calendar.
