Dubai and Abu Dhabi will host the final two rounds of the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship in November, putting the UAE at the centre of the title race as the season reaches its conclusion.
Dubai will stage the penultimate round on November 21 and 22, followed by the Season Grand Final in Abu Dhabi on November 28 and 29.
The finale will be held at Emirates Palace for the first time, with the championship contenders competing for the title and a US$2 million winner takes all prize.
The back-to-back UAE events come with the standings still competitive and several teams fighting to secure their place in the season decider.
Dubai to Host Penultimate Round
The Emirates Dubai Sail Grand Prix presented by DP World will provide the final opportunity for teams to improve their championship position before the Abu Dhabi finale.
This year’s competition features 13 international teams racing identical F50 foiling catamarans capable of reaching speeds above 100km/h.
With only one round remaining after Dubai, points gained or lost during the weekend could have a significant impact on which teams remain in contention for the championship.
The short turnaround between the two UAE events will also give crews limited time to respond to poor results or technical issues before racing resumes in Abu Dhabi.
Dubai has become an established destination on the SailGP calendar, with its waterfront racecourse allowing spectators to follow the high-speed competition close to shore.
Abu Dhabi Finale Moves to Emirates Palace
The championship will move to Abu Dhabi a week later for the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix 2026 Season Grand Final presented by Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
The event will mark SailGP’s first race weekend at Emirates Palace, providing a new setting for the final races of the season.
Abu Dhabi hosted the conclusion of the previous championship, when Emirates GBR secured its first SailGP title.
Its return as the final destination on the 2026 calendar means the championship will once again be decided in the UAE, this time at a new venue.
Australia Leads Championship Standings
Australia’s Bonds Flying Roos currently lead the championship standings, holding a 17 point advantage over Spain’s Los Gallos.
The contest behind the leading pair remains much closer.
The US SailGP Team, Artemis and defending champions Emirates GBR are separated by only five points in the battle for third place, leaving the race for the Grand Final open heading into the closing stages of the season.
The championship still has European competition ahead, including the Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix in Geneva, before the fleet travels to the UAE.
Results from those races could alter the standings considerably before the Dubai round begins.
F50 Catamarans Reach Speeds Above 100km/h
SailGP’s racing format is built around identical F50 foiling catamarans, placing greater emphasis on crew performance, tactics and decision-making.
The boats use hydrofoils to lift their hulls above the water, reducing drag and allowing them to exceed 100km/h in suitable conditions.
At those speeds, small mistakes can quickly affect race positions. Starts, manoeuvres and tactical decisions can all become significant when teams are separated by narrow margins.
The races are generally staged close to shore, allowing spectators to follow the competition from waterfront locations.
With 13 teams competing, the 2026 campaign is the largest SailGP season to date.
UAE Rounds Set to Shape Title Race
The remaining European races will determine the shape of the championship battle before the fleet reaches Dubai, but the final two rounds leave little margin for recovery.
For teams around the qualification places, a strong performance in Dubai could secure a place in the Abu Dhabi decider. A difficult weekend could end their championship hopes before the final begins.
Australia currently holds the advantage, with Spain its closest challenger, while the five-point gap between the teams fighting for third keeps another part of the standings finely balanced.
That pressure is likely to increase as the season moves towards its final races.
With the championship still open and several teams competing for position, the UAE double header will provide the final test after a season of racing around the world.
