Roblox is changing how creators receive money from their games and how players access its experiences, with a new digital wallet and plans to make games available beyond its traditional app.
The company announced the changes as it looks to strengthen its relationship with creators, attract new players and expand the reach of its gaming platform.
The new Roblox Wallet is designed to give creators faster access to money generated through their games. Currently, creators must request the conversion of Robux, Roblox’s virtual currency, into real-world money after reaching the required threshold. The process can also involve a lengthy waiting period.
Under the new system, eligible creators will be able to receive automatic payments every business day, with funds transferred to their bank accounts.
Wallet launches first in the US
The Roblox Wallet is expected to launch in December for adult creators in the United States, with international expansion planned for 2027.
A payment card will also be linked to the wallet, giving creators another way to access their earnings.
Roblox is working with financial technology company Airwallex to manage the payment services. The company has clarified that it will not operate as a bank.
The service is also expected to become available to teenagers in 2027 with parental consent. The payment card will be available to eligible wallet holders.
Billions paid to creators
The changes highlight the growing importance of creators to Roblox’s business.
Roblox says it has paid more than $5 billion to creators since 2013, including around $1.7 billion over the past 12 months.
However, creator earnings vary considerably. The company said the median earnings among roughly 42,000 paid creators are about $1,500 a year.
The new payment system comes as Roblox works to maintain creator engagement and strengthen its wider gaming ecosystem.
Around 123 million people played Roblox daily in the second quarter of 2026, a 10 per cent increase from the same period a year earlier. However, the figure remains below the platform’s peak of about 151 million daily users during summer 2025.
Games could become easier to access
Roblox is also making changes that could reduce players’ dependence on the Roblox application.
By the end of 2026, users are expected to be able to launch games directly through Chrome using a shared link. Players will not need to open the Roblox app first.
The company also plans to allow creators to distribute games as standalone applications across mobile devices, computers and consoles.
An offline mode is planned as well, giving developers more options for how their games can be accessed.
These changes could help creators reach audiences beyond Roblox’s traditional platform while giving players more ways to discover and play games.
Child safety remains a concern
The expansion comes as Roblox continues to face scrutiny over child safety.
About one-third of its users are under 13, and the company has introduced measures including age verification for messaging. Safety concerns have contributed to slower sign-ups and increased regulatory attention.
At the same time, Roblox is expanding the use of artificial intelligence in game creation. Its Roblox Build tool can generate an entire game from a written description.
The tool has been tested in Serbia and Singapore, with around 9,000 games reportedly created using it. Roblox said 71 per cent of users who created games through the tool had never previously used its creation features.
Roblox is making these changes as it seeks to strengthen its creator economy while expanding how users discover and play games.
Faster payments could give creators quicker access to their earnings, while browser access and standalone applications could help developers reach players beyond the traditional Roblox experience.
